ASU Opera Theatre presents 'Opera Thrills! No Frills!' March 7, March 9

March 1, 2010 -- The Department of Music at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro will present the ASU Opera Theatre in “Opera Thrills! No Frills!” on Sunday, March 7 at 3 p.m., and Tuesday, March 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the Drama Theatre, Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Dr., Jonesboro.  ASU Opera is under the direction of Dr. Marika Kyriakos, with graduate assistant Roberta Tupper as the assistant director, and Joy Sanford on piano and harpsichord. 

The opera cast members are Erin Reagan of Munford, Tenn., Crystal Haralson of Paragould, Kari Rickman of Bono, Kate Smith of Wynne, Renee Smith of Houston, Texas, Roberta Tupper of Bartlesville, Okla., and Rebecca Craft, Becky Morrison, Anna Ganong, Chris Orr, Willie Sullivan, Matthew Vardell, and Taylor Woodruff of Jonesboro. Assisting in the production are Roberta Tupper, costume design; Jason Henson, lighting and sound; and Willie Sullivan, assistant stage director.  Costumes are provided by the Forum Theatre and the ASU Theatre Department.

Five scenes will cover an array of styles, each being sung in its original language. Opera selections include “Die Zauberflöte” (The Magic Flute) by Mozart, “Susannah” by Carlisle Floyd, “Carmen” by Bizet, “Dido and Aeneas” by Purcell, and “L’Elisir d’Amore” (Elixir of Love) by Donizetti. Tickets are currently available at the ASU Box Office and will be sold at the door. Prices are $8 for adults and $5 for ASU students and children under 12.
