ASU hires three new alumni as
student recruiters for admissions

From left to right: Ford Mundy, Courtney Rowe and Jake HamptonArkansas State University in Jonesboro has recently hired three new alumni as student recruiters for admissions.

Ford Mundy, Courtney Rowe, and Jake Hampton have taken the mission of traveling to high schools and two-year institutions to tell others about the merits of an ASU education.

ASU’s dean of enrollment, Greg Thornburg, is thrilled with the addition of the new alumni. “My goal is that with an extra recruiter on board, we can do more events and direct recruiting than what we’ve done in the past. For example, when a faculty member wants a recruiter to come to a high school science competition on a Saturday morning at the Convocation Center, we’ll have someone available to go.”

“We intend to be everywhere we can be, during this next year when high school seniors and their parents as well as transfer students and non-traditional students consider where to attend college,” he said.

“Ford, Courtney and Jake are energetic and enthusiastic. And, each of them absolutely loved ASU. They each have a great personal story to tell as to why they chose ASU, and why they value and appreciate the education they received on this campus. We are proud they are representing ASU. I know that when prospective students talk to them, they too, will want to attend ASU,” Thornburg said.

As recruiters, they will travel on the road attending college planning programs and conducting in-school and follow-up visits. In addition, they will meet with students and parents on the ASU campus and participate in all recruitment events such as one of the numerous Preview Days or offering campus tours.

Each of the three has been assigned to various regions, along with other recruiters in the office of admissions. Mundy will be visiting and recruiting at Bay, Buffalo Island Central, Jonesboro, Nettleton, Valley View, Riverside and Ridgefield Christian high schools. He will also visit schools in western Tennessee.

Courtney RoweRowe has been assigned to all the high schools in northwest Arkansas including Fayetteville, Springdale, Rogers, Bentonville, and Ft. Smith. She will also be working with ASU-Mountain Home and ASU-Beebe and Delta Promise Day. Delta Promise Day is an annual event for students who reside in the one of the designated 42 counties of the Mississippi Delta region. Students must be recommended by their counselor.

Hampton, last year’s Student Government Association president andJake Hampton the 2005 Wilson Award winner, has been assigned to Brookland, Paragould and Greene County Tech high schools. He will also be coordinating and planning University Honors Scholarship Day. University Honors is a competitive scholarship and is the highest scholarship offered at ASU which includes tuition, room and board, and a $1,200 stipend per academic year.

Rowe and Hampton graduated from ASU in the May commencement and Mundy graduated in the August commencement.
