Hollywood Film Producers to speak at ASU
Award-winning independent film producer F. Miguel
Valenti and his wife, media ethicist and writer, Laurie Trotta will
present “So You Want to Make a Movie,” as part of the Arkansas State
University Lecture~Concert Series.
It will be held Monday, Jan. 26, at 7:30 p.m. in
the theatre of the Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Drive on the ASU campus. It
is free and open to the public.
The presentation will include the “low down”
on how Hollywood movies are made. And, it will include a discussion on
what the audience can do to make a difference in Hollywood. This
Lecture~Concert Series event is a joint presentation with the ASU College
of Communications and the Department of Journalism and Printing.
Valenti’s most recent film, Lost Skeleton of
Cadavra, a horror-movie spoof, premiered in selected theatres across
the country in 2003. His small-budget movies have featured Freddy Prinze
Jr., Timothy Hutton, Tyne Daly, Lauren Holly and Peter Falk.
He
most recently made his feature directorial debut with a spoof entitled, Fear
and Clothing. He also recently produced Abracadabra, a Mafia
comedy, starring John Fiore of The Sopranos.
Valenti is an independent producer,
manager and entertainment attorney based in Los Angeles. He is a managing
partner of The Management Company, based in Santa Monica, Calif., whose
clients include noted writers, producers and directors in film, television
and theatre.
He specializes in working with young
talent for his company and has expertise in all aspects of script
development, creative packaging and on-set producing, as well as
entertainment industry business and legal matters.
Valenti graduated from Yale College and Yale Law
School in the 1980s. After five years practicing corporate mergers and
acquisitions and entertainment law at two of the world’s leading
international law firms, he left the legal practice to pursue full-time
film and theatre production.
His wife, Laurie Trotta, is the former
executive director of Mediascope, a media ethics watchdog group, and is
the author of “Building Blocks: A Resource Guide for Educational
Television.” They are co-authors of the book, “More Than a Movie:
Ethics in Entertainment.”
The
ASU Lecture~Concert Series presents diverse programs to enrich the
cultural life of the campus, community and region. All programs are free
and open to the public.
Other 2004 Lecture~Concert Series events include:
the California E.A.R. Unit, a contemporary music ensemble, on Jan. 31;
Capt. Winston Scott, former NASA astronaut and missions specialist with
“Views from the Columbia and Endeavour,” on Feb. 10; and Andrew Patner
with “Does America Need an Arts Policy?” on March 22.
