Hollywood Film Producers to speak at ASU

Award-winning independent film producer F. Miguel Valenti and his wife, media ethicist and writer, Laurie Trotta will present “So You Want to Make a Movie,” as part of the Arkansas State University Lecture~Concert Series.

It will be held Monday, Jan. 26, at 7:30 p.m. in the theatre of the Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Drive on the ASU campus. It is free and open to the public.

The presentation will include the “low down” on how Hollywood movies are made. And, it will include a discussion on what the audience can do to make a difference in Hollywood. This Lecture~Concert Series event is a joint presentation with the ASU College of Communications and the Department of Journalism and Printing.

Valenti’s most recent film, Lost Skeleton of Cadavra, a horror-movie spoof, premiered in selected theatres across the country in 2003. His small-budget movies have featured Freddy Prinze Jr., Timothy Hutton, Tyne Daly, Lauren Holly and Peter Falk.

He most recently made his feature directorial debut with a spoof entitled, Fear and Clothing. He also recently produced Abracadabra, a Mafia comedy, starring John Fiore of The Sopranos.

Valenti is an independent producer, manager and entertainment attorney based in Los Angeles. He is a managing partner of The Management Company, based in Santa Monica, Calif., whose clients include noted writers, producers and directors in film, television and theatre.

He specializes in working with young talent for his company and has expertise in all aspects of script development, creative packaging and on-set producing, as well as entertainment industry business and legal matters.

Valenti graduated from Yale College and Yale Law School in the 1980s. After five years practicing corporate mergers and acquisitions and entertainment law at two of the world’s leading international law firms, he left the legal practice to pursue full-time film and theatre production.

His wife, Laurie Trotta, is the former executive director of Mediascope, a media ethics watchdog group, and is the author of “Building Blocks: A Resource Guide for Educational Television.” They are co-authors of the book, “More Than a Movie: Ethics in Entertainment.”
