Jerry Smith named as president
for national organization

Dec. 15, 2004--At the annual conference in Orlando in November, the University Economic Development Association (UEDA) announced Jerry L. Smith, director of the Center for Regional & Community Development at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro as president for 2004-05. 

UEDA has memberships of more than 110 universities and serves to enhance the performance of university-based organizations and their affiliates by providing economic development, business and technical assistance to businesses and communities.

Smith was program chairman for the annual conference, which included speakers from the American Association of State Colleges and Universities, the Council on Competitiveness, Harvard University’s Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness, Carnegie Mellon University and Virginia Tech University. 

Smith has been director of the center at ASU since 1989. Before coming to ASU, he served as a regional specialist for the Arkansas Industrial Development Commission. Smith also serves as the coordinator of the ASU university center project for the U.S. Economic Development Administration which focuses on aligning the university’s research and technical assistance resources with the needs of emerging industry in Jonesboro and northeast Arkansas.
