Department of Music presents guitarist Ronald Radford in concert, Nov. 12

The Department of Music at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro will host guest guitarist, Ronald Radford, in concert on Friday, Nov. 12.

This American Flamenco virtuoso has performed on four continents and is a protégé of the legendary Carlos Montoya. Radford lived and traveled in Spain where he learned the musical wisdom of the Gypsy Flamenco guitar masters, in addition to classical studies with Andres Segovia and Jose Thomas. Radford complements his technique with a narration which recreates the ancient folklore of Flamenco. He is the only individual to be awarded a Fulbright Scholarship in Flamenco.

His international tours have taken him to 15 countries from Australia to Switzerland and from Canada to Panama. He toured for the U.S. State Department as a musical ambassador in Mexico, Guatemala and other Latin American countries. He is currently touring colleges and universities and performing in venues across the United States. His new CD, Viva Flamenco, is available worldwide.

His performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Recital Hall on the ASU campus. Admission is $5.

Radford will also be presenting a master class at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11, in the Fine Arts Recital Hall. There will be a $10 fee for the master class. The concert and master class have been made possible by a Heartland Arts Fund grant by Mid-America Arts Alliance with contributions from the ASU Music Department, the Student Activities Board, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity.

For more information, please contact the Department of Music at (870) 972-2094.
