Concert and Symphonic
Bands to perform April 20

The Arkansas State University Department of Music will present the ASU Concert Band and the ASU Symphonic Band in a joint spring concert on Tuesday, April 20, at 7:30 p.m. in the Fowler Center Riceland Hall. The Symphonic Band is conducted by Dr. Kenneth Carroll and Keith Dortch directs the Concert Band.

The Symphonic Band’s program will include When Honor Whispers and Shouts by W. Francis McBeth, Analog by Jeff Simmons, Salvation Is Created by Pavel Tchesnokoff, ASCAP arranged by Bruce Housenecht, Enigma Variations, Op. 36 including Theme, Variation One – Andante, Variation Two – Allegro di molto, Variation Three – Moderato, Variation Four – Allegro di molto, and Variation Five – “Nimrod IX” by Edward Elgar set for band by Earl Slocum, and Legend, Op. 81 by James Barnes.

Members of the Symphonic Band are Ashley Slayton of Paragould, Sara Mitchell of Sherwood, Melinda Watts of Nixa, Missouri, Amanda Hayes of Kennett , Missouri, LaShay McDuffey of Forrest City, Davita Parks of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and Caitlin Sammons of Bald Knob, flute; Jennifer Specking of Wynne, Jonathon Rohner of Bono, Mylie Brown of Walnut Ridge, Angela Williams of Forrest City, Nicole Nebeker of Trumann, Terana Griffin of Paragould, Justin McKisick of Forrest City, and Melanie Partin of Conway, clarinet; Seretha Sullivan of Jonesboro, bass clarinet; Damian Sanchez of Miami, Florida, oboe; Nanah Kim of Wynne, bassoon; Daniel Coward of Wynne, Tonia Spurlock of Ash Flat, and Josh Davis of Jonesboro, alto saxophones; Vic Swain of Paragould, tenor saxophone; Adam Leslie of Jonesboro, baritone saxophone; Phillip Pruett of Jonesboro, Ashley McBryde of Highland, Alice Hart of Bryant, Mary Ross of Memphis, Tennessee, and Kendra Sauheaver of Sherwood, horn; Peter Davis of Jonesboro, Will Hartzel of Forrest City, Max Rand of Paragould, Angela Binkley of Piggott, Breann Huffman of Jonesboro, Brett Williams of Forrest City, and Luke Walker of Pocahontas, trumpet; Seth Weston of Jonesboro, Corey Emerson of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Matt Strawbridge of Jonesboro, Jared Huffmaster of Paragould, Eric Palmer of Bald Knob, and Ryan Barnet of Poplar Bluff , Missouri, trombone; Robert Shurley of Jonesboro and Jennifer Hall of Tyronza, euphonium; Jay Shepherd of Paragould, Jeff Miller of Paragould, and Ryan Riley of Jonesboro, tuba; and Adam Watkins of Jonesboro, Ben Pruett of Jonesboro, Mark Williamson of Bald Knob, Jessica Vick of Nettleton, Ralo Brown of Dumas, and Chris Knight of Sherwood, percussion.

The Concert Band will be performing Sweet Land of Liberty by James Sochinski, God of Our Fathers by Claude T. Smith, Where the River Flows movement I. The New Frontier, movement II. Bring Back My Child, and movement III. Great Chief by James Swearingen, and Satiric Dances movement III. by Norman Dello Joio.
