Student exhibition featured in
the ASU Museum through June 6

Currently on exhibit at the Arkansas State University Museum is a student exhibition of artifacts from the museum’s collection. This was a class project for the “Introduction to Museum Work” offered for the spring semester. The exhibition in the lobby gallery continues through June 6.

Introduction to Museum Work teaches students all aspects of working in a museum.  The class is team taught by museum staff. It covers museum administration, collections, education and exhibits.

Each student in the Introduction to Museum Work class chose an object or objects they wanted to see on exhibit. In preparation of exhibit of the objects, they had to write a condition report for the objects; research donor information; and clean, conserve and research the object use and manufacture. They also created any special mounts needed to exhibit their object’s and write the label copy.

Objects chosen for exhibition were:

            Model-T tools

            Three early 20th century dresses

            1840s century spinning wheel

1910s coat, hat, boots and Gladstone

            Fraternal swords

            Obstetrical-gynecological examining and surgery chair

            Photo-engraver copy camera

The ASU Museum is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. The public is welcome.  Admission is free, with a suggested donation of $2 per visitor. For more details, call the Museum at (870) 972-2074.
