Arkansas State University's Department of Mathematics and Statistics will host a "Statistics Symposium" on Friday and Saturday, April 2-3, in cooperation with the 2004 meeting of the Arkansas Academy of Science at ASU.

The symposium will be headquartered in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics building at the southeast end of the campus quadrangle.

Many of the talks are suitable for a multi-disciplinary audience.

Invited speakers include the executive director of the American Statistical Association; Ph.D. statisticians from universities including Rice, Baylor, Iowa, Mississippi State, Harding and ASU; and officials of Wal-Mart Stores Inc.

The symposium begins Friday, April 2, at 8:45 a.m. with welcoming remarks given by Dr. Hector Flores, Dean of College of Sciences and Mathematics at ASU.

Symposium co-directors are Dr. Roger Abernathy, associate professor of math; Dr. Debra Ingram, assistant professor of statistics; Dr. Jerry Linnstaedter, professor of mathematics and department chair; and Dr. R.P. Smith, associate professor of math, all at ASU.
