Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team win national competition in Kansas City Twelve members of the Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro recently returned from a national exposition in Kansas City as one of the top teams in the country, placing in the top 40 of 800 teams. Students in Free Enterprise is dedicated to helping people become more literate about the American economy and business. The ASU team conducted 34 major projects geared toward school children and their teachers, and the ASU campus. The ASU team was placed in the top 10 and won $5,000, which will be applied to projects for the 2004-05 academic year. The ASU team name will appear on boxes of Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes and other Kellogg’s products as a result of their effort. The winning streak for the team began in April when they won the right to attend the national exposition after completing the regional competition in St. Louis. In St. Louis, they won three special competitions for projects with teachers, students and the college campus, more than any other team at the regional competition. The St. Louis competition was one of the largest in the nation among the more than 30 regional competitions from Honolulu to New York City. Sam Walton fellows and advisors for the team are Dr. Larry R. Dale, professor of economics, and Mrs. Patricia Toney-McLin, instructor in accounting.
