to host SCI
Composers'
Regional Conference in January
The
Department of Music at Arkansas State University-Jonesboro is proud to
host the 2004 Society of Composers, Inc. Region VI Conference, featuring
the works of nearly 60 composers from 20 different states with 10 concerts
and premieres.
ASU faculty and students will be performing as well as guest
musicians from all over the country. These concerts will be held on
Thursday, Jan. 29, at 4 and 8 p.m.; on Friday, Jan. 30,
at 10 a.m., 1, 4, and 8 p.m.; and on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 10
a.m., 1, 4, and 7 p.m.
The concerts will feature performances by the ASU Wind Ensemble, the ASU
Concert Choir, ASU Faculty Brass Quintet, ASU Percussion Ensemble, ASU
Saxophone Quartet, ASU Ringers, ASU Trombone Choir, ASU Horn Choir, and
ASU Guitar Quartet.
The Jan. 31, concert at 7:30 p.m. will feature the California E.A.R.
Unit, a new musical group recognized today as one of America’s finest
contemporary chamber ensembles. This
presentation is supported by the Heartland Arts Fund, a program of
Mid-America Arts Alliance funded by the National Endowment for the Arts
with additional contributions from the Arkansas Arts Council, and
foundations, corporations, and individuals throughout Arkansas, Kansas,
Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas.
Sponsors of the conference include: Wright Family Dentistry, Smith
Barney, Amro Music, The Park Place Inn, The Edge Coffeehouse, and Omar's
Steak House.
