"The Laramie Project" at Fowler Center: April 21-24 at 7:30 p.m. The docudrama The Laramie Project by Moises Kaufman & the Tectonic Theatre Project will be presented by the Arkansas State University Theatre Department, April 21 – 24, at 7:30 p.m. in the Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Dr., in Jonesboro. The play details the horrific murder of a gay University of Wyoming student, Matthew Shepard, in October of 1998. His story made national headlines due to the shocking details of his attack, the ensuing fight for his life, the insensitive public reaction of the radical right at his memorial, and the trial of Shepard’s attackers. The ASU Theatre’s production of The Laramie Project is under the direction of John O’Connell, associate professor of theatre. Scenic and lighting design will be under the direction of Bob Simpson, professor of theatre. Kelly Schaefer, assistant professor of theatre, will serve as costume designer. Stage management duties for the season’s final production have been assigned to Rob Hypes, a senior theatre major from Jacksonville. The cast includes Paul Harrell, a freshman theatre major of Jonesboro as the narrator; the men's ensemble: Joe Hypes, a senior theatre major from Jacksonville; William Rowland, a freshman theatre major from Jacksonville; Kelly Stafford, a junior theatre major from Memphis, Tenn.; Jared Weston, a freshman theatre major from Paragould; the women's ensemble: Summer Allen, a junior theatre major from Springdale; Tonya Rogers, a junior theatre major from Springdale; Ashley Brumett, a junior theatre major from Jacksonville; and Tiffany Tynes, a junior theatre major from Jonesboro. The men and women’s ensemble portray more than 55 different characters from the story. Other characters include: Clint Gooch, a freshman theatre major from Searcy as the camera operator; Brittany Rowell, a freshman theatre major from Bono as reporter #1; Michelle Gardner, a freshman theatre major from North Little Rock as reporter #2; Kyle Hamsher, a freshman speech communication major from Jacksonville as reporter #3; and Mary Claire DePriest, a freshman theatre major from Jonesboro as reporter # 4. Tickets may be purchased (for reserved seating) in advance at the ASU Central Box Office in the Convocation Center, or by calling 972-ASU1. Tickets are also available online at tickets.astate.edu. Reserved seating tickets (if available) may be purchased at the door on the evening of the performance. Ticket prices are $8 ($6 in advance). Advanced reservations are highly recommended. This
play is suitable for mature audiences only.
Children under six years old will not be admitted.
Please arrive early, as latecomers will not be seated until
intermission.
