Music Department presents
"The Tribe" and ASU Jazz Lab Band

The Department of Music at Arkansas State University presents the ASU Jazz Band, “The Tribe,” and the ASU Jazz Lab Band in concert on Tuesday, Oct. 12, at 7:30 in the Fowler Center Riceland Hall.

“The Tribe” is under the direction of Mr. Ed Alexander, Director of Bands. Musical selections for this concert will include Dick-Z-Do by John LaBarbera, A Time for Love by Sammy Nestico with trombone solo by Blake Howerton, “Hunting Wabbits” by Gordon Goodwin, “One Mint Julep by Alan Baylock, How High the Moon with vocalist Ashley McBride by Dave Wolpe, Spin Cycle by Alan Baylock, and The Jazz Police by Gordon Goodwin.

Members of the Jazz Band are Jonathan Rohner of Bono and Amy Dunivan of Jonesboro, alto sax; Drew Breckinridge of Newport and Mike Newsom of Memphis, Tenn., tenor sax; Tim Miller of Corning, baritone sax; Sherri Fincher of Paragould, Grant Harbison of Jonesboro, Vanessa Johns of Paragould, and Will Hartzell of Forrest City, trumpets; Lanny Heidbreder  of Poplar Bluff, Mo.., Blake Howerton of Jonesboro, Matt Strawbridge of Jonesboro, and Corey Spencer of Wynne, trombones; Max Rand of Paragould, guitar; Ben White of Jonesboro, drums; Corey Emerson of Poplar Bluff, Mo., bass, David Butler of Jonesboro, piano; and Alex Anderson of Marion, vibes.

The Jazz Lab Band, an exciting big band is under the direction of Dr. Kenneth Carroll. The assignment for the Jazz Lab this semester is immersion in the styles, forms and melodies of Latin jazz.  Tuesday evening’s presentation will include You Lika’ Da Juice? by Victor Lopez, Oye Como Va by Tito Puente, Manteca by Gillespie, Fuller, and Pozo Gonzales, Sweet Dreams featuring Adam Leslie by Victor Lopez, and La Fiesta by Chick Corea.

Members of the Jazz Lab Band include:  Allene Kirk of Ravenden, Daniel Coward of Wynne, Tonia Spurlock of Ash Flat, Daidreon Clayton of Jonesboro, Daniel Rickman of Westside, and Adam Leslie of Jonesboro, saxophones; Luke Walker of Pocahontas, Chelsea Bills of Paragould, Katie Wilson of Marion, Malina Hutchison of Highland, Kendra Sauheaver of Sherwood, and James Pouncey of Harrison, trumpets; Jason Payne of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Peter Bazzano of Germantown, Tenn., Seth Weston of Jonesboro, Tyrone Cobb of Dermott, and Jeffrey Miller of Paragould, trombones; Tiffany Patton of Marion and Michael Schneider of Tacoma, Wash., piano; Ben Pruett of Jonesboro, Tommie Ware of Jonesboro, Janet Haner of Trumann, and  Perry Harper of Jonesboro, Percussion; and Blake Hill of Marion, bass.
