Dr. Robyn Hannigan appointed to national board in science Dr. Robyn Hannigan, associate professor of geochemistry at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, has been appointed to the Board on Earth Sciences and Resources with the National Academy of Sciences. As one of only 14 members serving on the national board, Hannigan and the other members will meet twice each year in Washington, D.C., addressing requests from the federal government for information on special technical or policy issues as well as to enhance the earth sciences. The Board on Earth Sciences and Resources has activities related to earth sciences involving research and the environment through its committees of scientific experts and leading professionals drawn from academia, industry and government. The board provides accurate and timely input to support wise decision making in government, academia and industry. Members of the board are chosen through a careful process of search and selection in an endeavor to assemble a committee of the highest competence. They are chosen on the strength of their professional qualifications. Hannigan teaches in the Department of Chemistry and the Environmental Sciences Ph.D. Program at ASU. In addition, she is the director of the McNair Scholars Program which promotes graduate school and doctoral studies in the sciences, technology, engineering, and math for minority and first generation-low income students. She also serves as the principal investigator of several federally-funded research grants investigating the complexities of geochemical cycles in aquatic environments. Dean of the College of Mathematics and Sciences, Dr. Hector Flores said: “Our College is proud of this recognition to Dr. Hannigan. She will be serving on a committee of the most prestigious scientist's organization in the country.” .
