Len Frey to serve
as interim
dean of College of Business
Dr. Len Frey, chair of the Department of
Management and Marketing at Arkansas State University, today was named
interim dean of the College
of
Business. He will officially begin work in his new position Jan. 4,
following the departure of Dr. Jan Duggar, who recently was appointed to a
similar position at Jacksonville University in Florida.
"Dr. Frey has graciously agreed to serve as interim dean of the College of
Business," announced Dr. Susan D. Allen, vice chancellor for research and
academic affairs. "This is a period of significant change for the college
with enrollment management initiatives and the push for a new building.
His strong commitment to ASU, business education and research, and his
ties to local business will be real assets during this period of
transition."
Frey joined the ASU faculty as department chair in the summer of 2000.
Prior to that, he served in a similar position as chair of Department of
Management and Marketing at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, La.
His academic teaching specialties, in which he also has been a consultant
for business and industrial clients, include team building, management and
leadership.
"I appreciate the confidence that Dr. Allen and the university
administration has shown in me with this appointment," Frey commented. "I
look forward to working with the faculty and students of the college, as
well as with business and community leaders to continue to enhance and
refine the strategic direction of the College of Business. Obviously,
there are a number of initiatives in process that we will want to see
through to fruition."
Before entering higher education, Frey's business experience includes a
variety of positions in the healthcare industry, including St. Bernards
Medical Center in Jonesboro. In addition to his professional experience,
he has been a leader in civic activities. He currently serves on the
leadership team for District 6150 of Rotary International and has held
several offices with Jonesboro University Rotary Club. He also is active
in the Greater Jonesboro Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the
Leadership Jonesboro class of 1987.
He completed his bachelor's degree and MBA at ASU, then earned his
doctoral degree in business administration with a major in organizational
behavior at the University of Memphis. He and his wife, Renea, have two
children, Nicole and Brandon.
