Fowler Center presents Salzburg Chamber Soloists Thursday, Oct. 7

The Salzburg Chamber Soloists will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, as the second event of the 2004-05 season for the Fowler Center at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro.

This performance is one of four Riceland Distinguished Perform-
ance Series events this year.

The group will perform the Sinfonie in G minor, Nr. 12 by F. Mendelssohn Bartholdy and Violinkonzert in D major, KV 211 by W. A. Mozart, which will feature soloist Lena Neudauer. The group will also play Serenade for Strings, op 22 by A. Davorak to close the show.

The Salzburg Chamber Soloists perform orchestral chamber music with the freedom of soloists. Lavard Skou- Larsen, the current Artistic Director, violinist and leader of the group, founded the orchestra in 1991.

That same year, the orchestra toured the United States and Canada, and in 1993 the group toured South America for the first time. Under the leadership of then Artistic Director Boris Belkin, the orchestra released two compact discs of Mozart’s work between 1992 and 1995.

The group continued touring, and on its second tour in South America, won the critic’s prize for the best foreign orchestra to have played in Buenos Aires that season. Since then, the group has performed in Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, Zurich, Finland, Siena and many other concert halls around the world. The Salzburg Chamber Soloists are also regular guests at various festivals including the Academia Chigiana, the Turku Musikfestival, the Baalback festival and the Mozart festival.

Larsen, the orchestra leader, has won prizes both as a soloist and as a chamber musician, and has been invited to perform with symphony and chamber orchestras in Europe and South America, performing as leader, concertmaster and conductor.

Neudauer, the featured soloist, performed her first soloist concerto at age 11, and won four prizes at the fourth International Violin Competition at age 15. She also received the European Culture award.

Individual tickets to the Salzburg Chamber Soloists performance are $25 and $20 for adults, $18 and $14 for students and senior citizens. “Build your own Season” tickets are available to any four events for $80 and $65 for adults and $60 and $45 for senior citizens and students.
