Concert Choir, Men's Choir, Women's Choir to present Spring Concert

On Thursday, April 15, Director of Choral Activities Dr. Dale Miller and graduate conducting assistants Sherry Fagan and Carolyn Smith will lead the Arkansas State University Concert Choir and University Singers Men’s and Women’s Choirs in the Spring Choir Concert. 

The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Riceland Hall of the Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Dr. Accompanists are Ellen Philpot and Stephen Leslie, piano; Russell Niemyer, percussion, and Amy Dunivan, oboe.

The performance begins with the Men’s Choir singing “All That Hath Life and Breath Praise Ye the Lord!” by Rene Clausen, “Beautiful Savior” arranged by F. Melius Christiansen, and “Hava Nageela” an Israeli folk-song arranged by Maurice Goldman.  Then Ms. Smith will conduct the Eugene Butler setting of “My Love is Like a Rose,” Ms. Fagan will conduct the barbershop arrangement “Yes, Sir, That’s My Baby” by Val Hicks, and Dr. Miller will conduct the spiritual, “Swing Down, Chariot,” arranged by Florida State University choir director Andre Thomas.

The concert will continue with the Women’s Choir singing “May God Be Merciful” by Robert J. Powell, conducted by Ms. Smith, and “The Dream Tree” by Ben Allaway, conducted by Ms. Fagan, followed by “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend” by Alan Billingsley, “Let It Shine!” arranged by Kari Ala-Pollanen, and finally, “River in Judea” by John Leavitt, all conducted by Dr. Miller. 

The ASU Concert Choir, which includes 46 singers from all colleges of the university, will present works of the 18th through the 20th centuries.  These include works by J.S. Bach, G. F. Handel, Wolfgang Mozart, Pietro Mascagni, and Maurice Durufle’, all conducted by Miller, and the first movement of Antonio Vivaldi’s "Gloria," conducted by Ms. Smith, a graduate student from Huntsville, Ala..
