Faculty Achievement Awards
presented at annual Convocation

Dr. James Bednarz, Jeannean Hall-Rollins and Julie Isaacson today were named recipients of the 2003-04 Board of Trustees Faculty Achievement Awards during a Convocation of Scholars ceremony at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro.

Bednarz, professor of wildlife ecology, received the Faculty Award for Excellence in Research/Scholarship.

Hall-Rollins, associate professor of radiologic sciences, received the Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Isaacson, assistant professor of nursing, received the Faculty Award for Professional Service.

The winners were announced during the annual Faculty Honors Convocation, a highlight of the annual Convocation of Scholars.  A university committee reviews nominations from professional colleagues and makes the selections.

Bednarz, who joined the ASU faculty in 1993, was cited for his publications and grant activity.  He has had six significant papers published or accepted for publication in major, peer-reviewed international scientific journals.  In addition, he has secured more than $743,000 in grant funds during the past year.  After completing his bachelor’s degree at New Mexico State University, Bednarz earned his master’s degree at Iowa State University and his doctoral degree at the University of New Mexico.

Hall‑Rollins was recognized for her effective techniques for teaching, both in the classroom and in the clinical setting.  Her lectures are innovative with her use of technology, and she emphasizes extensive one-on-one instruction for her students. A member of the ASU faculty since 1991, she earned her bachelor's degree from Northeast Louisiana University and her master's degree from ASU.

Isaacson has been a faculty member at ASU since 1987.  Her award is based on her service contributions outside the classroom.  Her activities include leadership positions in university committees, her professional organizations, and local civic and fund-raising work.    She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee and her master's from Vanderbilt University.
