ASU - Jonesboro:
First assessment Arkansas State University in Jonesboro will hold its first Assessment Colloquy (Kahl'-uh-kwe) for faculty members Wednesday, Aug. 18, with featured speaker, Dr. James A. Anderson, vice president and associate provost for Institutional Assessment and Diversity at Texas A & M University. The Department of Research and Academic Affairs is hosting the day-long event to promote the work already completed by faculty members, and to kick off an assessment process that will take place over the next three years. Dr. Anderson, a national leader in assessment and diversity, is a tenured professor in the Department of Psychology at Texas A & M. His research and interests lie in three areas: 1) the development of student learning styles across gender, race, culture and class and how the varied styles respond to different modes of instruction; 2) the formal assessment of student learning in the college classroom; and 3) the examination of how diversity impacts student learning, retention and overall institution effectiveness. The annual Fall Faculty Conference will begin at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 18, in the Fowler Center. Following opening presentations by ASU President Dr. Les Wyatt and others, Dr. Anderson will provide the keynote address. During the afternoon, Dr. Anderson and Dr. Kent Johnson, director of assessment at ASU, will conduct workshop sessions.
