“The Shape of Things”
2nd Theatre production of season

The Theatre Department of Arkansas State University – Jonesboro begins the second production of the season with “The Shape of Things” at Fowler Center Nov. 14 and 15, and Nov. 18 and 19, at 7:30 pm.

This comedy/drama is by American playwright and film director Neil LaBute. It premiered at the Almeida Theatre in London in 2001 and was initially directed by LaBute. “The Shape of Things” discusses the perennial question of what art is. It is also an exploration of love and people's willingness to do things for love. It is set in a small university town in the American midwest and centers on the lives of four young students who become emotionally and romantically involved with each other.

The ASU Theatre's production of “The Shape of Things” is under the direction of Molly Simpson, professor of theatre. Scenic and lighting design will be under the direction of Albert Juhrend, assistant professor of theatre. Kelly Schaefer, assistant professor of theatre, will serve as costume designer. Stage management duties for the production have been assigned to Summer Allen, a sophomore theatre major from Springdale and assistant stage manager is Rob Hypes, a theatre major from Jacksonville.

The cast of four include: Joe Hypes, a senior from Jacksonville; Katie Holland, a sophomore from Little Rock; Jared Westen, a freshman from Paragould; and Michelle Gardner, a freshman from North Little Rock; all of whom are majoring in theatre.
