School-Age Conference set for this weekend in Little Rock Arkansas State University Childhood Services and the Arkansas Department of Human Services Division of Child Care and Early Childhood Education will host the annual Arkansas School-Age Care Conference Friday and Saturday, Jan. 10 and 11, at the Arkansas 4-H Center in Little Rock. "Creating Connections" is the theme for this year’s conference. Many special sessions will be available to participants including school-age licensing in Arkansas; special needs; keys to safety; family involvement; blood borne pathogens; portfolios; Project Learning Tree; advocacy; and Sesame Street Music Works. Conference speakers include Tracey Ballas, Steve Nawojczyk and V.P. Parker. Ballas is an education and training associate for the National Institute on "Out-of-School Time" at the Wellesely College Center for Research on Women. She has authored many articles on serving older school-age children, has testified before Congress and served as an advisor for former Vice President Al Gore on the Welfare to Work Committee. Nawojczyk is a juvenile services coordinator for the North Little Rock mayor’s office, and Parker serves as director of the Charles Bussey Child Development Center and is owner of V.P.
