4^th event in Lecture~Concert Series 
Jon Metzger to perform Dec. 2

The fourth event for the 2003-04 Lecture~Concert Series will be Tuesday, Dec. 2, at 7:30 p.m. at the Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Dr., on the ASU campus featuring jazz vibraphonist Jon Metzger performing with the ASU Percussion Ensemble and The Tribe jazz band. The concert is free and is a joint presentation with the ASU Department of Music.

“A new star vibist,” as he has been called by Jazztimes magazine, Metzger has developed an international presence through extensive touring, recording and lecturing. A winner of a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship Grant for Performance, he has appeared at well-known jazz venues across the United States.

Metzger has led quartet tours of Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Belgium. He has played for foreign dignitaries and other heads of state while serving as a jazz ambassador to Central America, the Near East, and Africa. He has also performed at the Spoleto Festival in Charleston, S.C., and appeared at the East Coast Jazz Festival in Washington, D.C.

Metzger has “dueled vibes” with Lionel Hampton at the Jazzfest Festival in Kingston, Jamaica, as well as having performed with Gunther Schuller as part of the American Composers Series at Strathmore Hall Arts Center in Maryland. In addition, he has been featured in the Martin Williams Jazz Concert Series at the Kennedy Center.

The ASU Lecture~Concert Series presents diverse programs to enrich the cultural life of the campus, community and region. All programs are free and open to the public.
