ASU Lecture~Concert Series to
present cellist Stephen Framil

Cellist Stephen Framil (Fruh-mill) will be the first artist to perform in the spring semester of the Lecture~Concert Series. He will perform in Riceland Hall at Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Drive, Thursday, Jan. 30, at 7:30 p.m. The recital is free and open to the public.

During the past season he performed with the Russian National Symphony in St. Petersburg and orchestras in the Ukraine and Bulgaria. He also made his recital debut in New York’s Carnegie Hall.

He is the cofounder and director of chamber music for the Napa Valley Festival of Music, and served as professor of music at Andrews University. He earned his doctoral degree in music from Indiana University where he studied with Janos (Jan-ose) Starker.

He has held artist and faculty positions at the Rockland Summer Institute in New York and the Hong Kong Youth Music Festival. The 2001-2002 season included debut appearances in Carnegie Hall in New York, with the Russian National Symphony Orchestra from St. Petersburg, Zaporozhye Symphony Orchestra from the Ukaine, and Vratza Philharmonic Orchestra from Bulgaria.

Framil is due to record the Haydn Cello Concerti with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, adding to his discography which already includes recordings of the J.S. Bach Suites for Solo Cello and solo works by Kodaly, Hindemith and Cassado.

The musician will perform works by Prokofiev, Kodaly and Chopin for his concert at ASU.
