Honors Recital features top students in recital, March 28 The Arkansas State University College of Fine Arts, Department of Music, will present the annual Student Honors Recital on Friday, March 28, at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Recital Hall. Students are selected by audition to perform in the recital by a panel of judges representing the music faculty. The program for this recital includes: Furioso and Valse in D Minor, by Earl Hatch, performed by Richard Penn, marimba; Andante con moto, by C. .M. von Weber, performed by Tonya Fuller, clarinet, and Matthew Cureton, piano; The Roadside Fire, by Ralph Vaughan Williams, performed by Andrew Kjorlaug, baritone, and Dr. Ann Swaty, piano, Adagio, by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, performed by Ashlea Rudder, clarinet, and Carolyn Skinner, piano; Three Miniatures for Piano, by Paul Markowski, compostion major, performed by Kerri Turner, piano; Other selections are Michi by Keiko Abe, performed by Tina Gragg, marimba, Night Soliloquy for Flute and Piano, by Kent Kennan, performed by Tina Glover, flute, and Ed Owen, piano; Infelice! e tuo credevi, by Giuseppe Verdi, performed by Jeremy Blackwood, bass baritone, and Dennis Hay, piano; Existence for Two Oboes, by Matthew Cureton, composition major, performed by Caroline Sampson and Miguel Picanco, oboe; Nocturno, Opus 7, by Franz Strauss, performed by Nicolae Balu, horn, and Carolyn Mason, piano. Students chosen to perform at this year's recital are Richard Penn, marimba, of Benton; Tonya Fuller, clarinet, of Batesville; Andrew Kjorlaug, baritone, of Paragould; Ashlea Rudder, clarinet, of Jonesboro; Paul Markowski, composition, of Jonesboro; Tina Gragg, marimba, of Jonesboro; Tina Glover, flute, of Piggott; Jeremy B. Blackwood, bass baritone, of Harrisburg; Matthew Cureton, composition, of Arbyrd, Mo.; and Nicolae Balu, horn, of Romania. Accompanists for the recital are Matthew Cureton, Dr. Ann Swaty, Carolyn Skinner, Kerri Turner, Carolyn Mason, Dennis Hay, Ed Owen, Caroline Sampson, and Miguel Picanco. Awards will be presented by Dr. Robert Dale Miller, Chairman of Department of Music. A reception will follow hosted by the ASU chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota, a national professional music fraternity. The public is invited to attend. Admission is free. # # # |
