Financial Aid Night at ASU Feb. 12

Thursday, Feb. 12, from 3–6 p.m. is Student Services/Financial Aid Awareness Open House for prospective students at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro.

The Open House will be held in the Chickasaw Building, 106 N. Caraway Rd., on the ASU Campus. Parking will be reserved in the parking garage across the street from the Chickasaw Building on Caraway Rd.

Gov. Mike Huckabee has proclaimed the month of February as Financial Aid Awareness Month, as he does every year.

“The ASU Financial Aid and Scholarships Office is pleased to be coordinating the fourth annual Student Services/Financial Aid Open House. Last year, more than 500 students and parents attended, gaining valuable information during the Open House. This time can provide tremendous insight to the student aid process for family members, said Gregory Thornburg, ASU’s Dean of Enrollment Services.

The recommended filing date to apply for the Federal Pell Grant is Feb. 15. To file, the “Free Application for Federal Student Aid” (FAFSA) must be completed. It is the only application needed and is used for all federal funds such as Pell Grants, work-study positions and student loans. And, the FAFSA must also be completed by Feb. 15 in order to apply for Arkansas Student Assistance Grant funds.

At ASU, students should also complete scholarship applications for university-sponsored scholarships and local scholarships by Feb. 15, unless an individual program has an earlier deadline.

This Open House is a time for the community, parents and students to obtain financial aid and scholarship information, and applications. Staff members will be available to answer questions and assist family members with the completion of the FAFSA application during the Open House.

In addition, many other student service departments will be present to provide information concerning their service areas including: Admissions, Career Services, Testing, Counseling, and Student Support Services. Academic departments and faculty members will also be present to discuss opportunities for study in their departments.

Refreshments and door prizes will be provided during the Open House.
