Fall enrollment figures released with increase from last year by more than 142 students

According to the reporting guidelines established by the Arkansas Department of Higher Education, the enrollment figure is announced for the fall semester at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro as 10,577 students. An increase of 142 students over last year, the student headcount was 10,435 for the fall semester of 2002.

The current enrollment figure is an unduplicated headcount for all instructional sites associated with the Jonesboro campus. The enrollment figure is preliminary, and is a "snapshot" of enrollment taken on the 11th day of classes, known as the state-defined census date. The 11th day of classes for ASU-Jonesboro was Tuesday, Sept. 9.

The enrollment figure of 10,577 represents all students taking classes, (both full-time and part-time), either on the campus in Jonesboro, or with one of the upper level programs at one of the instructional sites offered through the Jonesboro campus. It does not include enrollment figures for the ASU campuses at Beebe, Mountain Home, Newport, Marked Tree, Heber Springs and Searcy. The preliminary fall 2003 full-time equivalent (FTE) enrollment for ASU-Jonesboro and all instructional sites is 8,522. (For fall 2002, the FTE figure was 8,516.)

ASU offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses at numerous locations throughout Arkansas. An additional 1,279 students are enrolled this fall at more than 17 sites throughout the state. Of the figures, the number of new students enrolled at ASU-Jonesboro and all ASU instructional sites for this fall is 2,793.

There are 1,526 first-time freshmen attending ASU. This fall, there are 445 students enrolled in web-based instruction at ASU, compared to 65 students in fall 2000 when web-based instruction first began.
