New scholarship programs adopted
for class entering ASU in 2004-05

Arkansas State University in Jonesboro has redesigned many institutional scholarships as well as developing new scholarships beginning the 2004 fall semester.

Many of the current institutional or academic scholarships through the university will be phased out as the students graduate over the next four years.  The new scholarships will be titled: the University Honors Scholarship, Chancellor’s Scholarship, Dean’s Scholarship, Future Delta Leaders Service Scholarship, Academic Merit Award, Beyond Boundaries, and Transfer Scholarship. In addition to the institutional scholarships, ASU also has approximately 300 private scholarships available.

All ASU scholarships are administered according to university guidelines and awarded only to students who have applied for admission to the university. Feb. 15, 2004 is the deadline for all scholarships except for the Transfer Scholarship. All scholarships are awarded based on the availability of funds.

To assist students and parents with questions, ASU opened a new Call Center earlier this year where financial aid advisors are available via telephone to answer questions concerning admission to the university, financial aid and scholarships. The phone number for the Call Center is 870-972-2310 and is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Additionally, ASU will offer in-state tuition to persons living in the contiguous counties bordering the state of Arkansas as well as a few neighboring cities. (The areas being offered in-state tuition include bordering counties of Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas, and the residents of the cities of Jackson, Tenn., Cape Girardeau and Joplin, Mo., and Shreveport and Monroe, La.) The new out-of-state tuition rates will also become effective for the 2004 fall semester.

For more information, please call financial aid at 870-972-2310 or the Office of Admissions at (800) 382-3030 or visit http://finaid.astate.edu.
