Homecoming Week activities slated
for Friday, Saturday, Sept. 12-13

Arkansas State University in Jonesboro has organized several activities during homecoming week prior to the Saturday, Sept. 13, game against Southeast Missouri at Indian Stadium.

Events during the week include a homecoming display, banner and hall competition among students, a step-show extravaganza, the Order of the Tribe “spirit competition,” a BBQ cookout and competition, an outdoor movie, and a variety show. The annual Beating of the Game Drum Ceremony begins on Friday before the Saturday game, a tradition that has been carried on for many, many years. Prior to the game, a student tailgate, “Party in the Pines” will be held at 4 p.m.

As hundreds of ASU Alumni are welcomed back to the campus for Homecoming ’03, various departments and colleges are hosting dinners and receptions. In addition, the annual Golden Anniversary (50-year) Reunion Brunch, honoring the class of 1953 will be held on Sept. 12 at 10 a.m. at the Fowler Center. On the same day, from noon until 1:30 p.m., the Golden Anniversary Plus Reunion Lunch for the classes of 1928 through 1952 will also be held at the Fowler Center.

The College of Business will hold an alumni breakfast seminar at 9 a.m. on Sept. 13. The College of Communications annual alumni seminar and BBQ lunch will begin at 10 a.m. in the communications building, room 156.

The College of Fine Arts Alumni “tent” reception will be held at the theatre entrance of the Fowler Center from 1 – 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 13. The tent reception will include a performance by the ASU Alumni Jazz Band.

The ASU Alumni Association will host a tailgate at 4 p.m. at the west end of Indian Stadium prior to the 6 p.m. game. Pre-game ceremonies begin at 5:40 p.m. at Indian Stadium. Three Distinguished Alumni will be named at the half-time festivities where they will receive their prestigious awards. The 2003 ASU Homecoming royalty will also be recognized at halftime.

Following the game, the ASU Alumni Association will host a 5th Quarter Party at the Holiday Inn with the Michael Ethridge Band. The Strong-Turner Alumni Dance will be held at the 501 Club, 2628 Phillips Drive, from 10 p.m. until 2 a.m.

In addition to all the activities, the ASU Museum will be open from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 12 and 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13. The museum has several new temporary and permanent exhibits.

The Bradbury Gallery in the Fowler Center will be open on Friday, Sept. 12 from noon until 6 p.m. with New American Paintings, southern style. The gallery will also be open on Saturday, Sept. 13 from noon until 5 p.m.
