Hemingway-Pfeiffer
Museum and Educational Center to host luncheon PIGGOTT -- "Hats: A Fashionable Link to the Past," is the theme for the second annual Luncheon on the Lawn, Paris Style, at the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 10. The event commemorates the Paris wedding of Ernest Hemingway and Pauline Pfeiffer on May 10, 1927. Along with the luncheon on the lawn, celebration activities will include an exhibit, "Hats of the Fashionable Past," in the Pfeiffer-Janes House and a Juried Student Art Show in the Hemingway Barn Studio. Speaker for the luncheon will be Dr. Beverly Chico, a history and humanities professor at Regis and Metropolitan universities in Colorado. Known as Denver's "Hat Lady," Dr. Chico has served as curator of 34 exhibitions. She will share the history of headwear, using hats from her international collection of more than 500 headpieces from 90 countries and cultures. Tickets for the event are $35 ($30 for Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center and ASU Museum members) and are available by calling 870-598-3487 in Piggott or 870-910-8080 in Jonesboro. Round-trip transportation is available from Jonesboro for $10, departing at 10 a.m. from the ASU Convocation Center and returning by 4:30 p.m. (Reservations should be made by May 2, 2003) Participants are encouraged to wear their own hats. (In the event of rain, the event will be held in the Piggott Community Center.) # # # |
