John P. Gill to autograph his book about Post Office art Little Rock attorney John P. Gill will autograph copies of his book, Post Masters: Arkansas Post Office Art in the New Deal, 4-6 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 23, at Fowler Center at Arkansas State University. ASU recently published the book, which will be of particular interest to those who study art or history. Gill, an Arkansas native, documented the development of public art which was commissioned for Arkansas post offices during the New Deal era. The book is his fourth with an Arkansas history theme, and reflects his interest in art and state heritage. A member of the Gill Elrod Ragon Owen & Sherman law firm in Little Rock, Gill is a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers and a past president of the Arkansas Bar Association. He has served as Special Counsel to the Governor of Arkansas, and chairman of the Governor’s Task Force for a New Constitution in 1995. He is retired as lieutenant colonel in the Marine Corps Reserve. His other publications include on the Courthouse Square in Arkansas, "Top Ten Cases in Arkansas History," and John Gill’s Tour of Little Rock, The Crossroads of Arkansas. He earned degrees in history and law
from Vanderbilt University. His most recent public involvement with
promoting Arkansas heritage occurred last month when he led an expedition
that crossed the base line of the Louisiana Purchase from the St. Francis
River to the initial point, the first group to do so since 1815. # # # — A more detailed release
