Achievement Awards presented at Convocation Mrs. Linda Clark, Dr. Robert Engelken and Dr. Kim Pittcock were named recipients of the 2002-03 faculty achievement awards given by the Board of Trustees during a ceremony today at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. The announcement was made by Dr. Susan Allen, vice chancellor for research and academic affairs. Clark, assistant professor of speech communication, received the ASU Board of Trustees Faculty Award for Teaching Excellence. Engelken, professor of electrical engineering, received the ASU Board of Trustees Faculty Award for Scholarship. Pittcock, assistant professor of horticulture, received the ASU Board of Trustees Faculty Award for Professional Service. Clark was recognized for the effective classroom techniques that she uses to challenge and inspire her students. A member of the ASU faculty since 1970, she holds a bachelor's degree from Central Methodist College and her master's from the University of Memphis. Engelken, who joined the ASU faculty in 1982, was cited for several articles published in professional publications, presentations, and research grants. After completing his bachelor's degree at ASU, Engelken earned his master's and doctoral degrees at the University of Missouri-Rolla. Pittcock has been a faculty member at ASU since 1998. Her award is based on her many activities outside the classroom, especially community outreach programs. One example is her work on the landscaping at the Craighead County Courthouse. She received her bachelor's and doctoral degrees from Texas Tech University, and her master's from the University of Tennessee. The winners were announced during the annual Faculty Honors Convocation, a highlight of the annual Convocation of Scholars. A university committee reviews nominations from professional colleagues and makes the selections. # # # |
