The workshops will target fiction writers, high school teachers who want to develop websites, college teachers hoping to integrate Delta materials into their classes, and photographers. All four require pre-enrollment by March 1. The workshops will take place Saturday morning, March 31, from 8:30 until 10:45.

Applicants should send name, address, telephone number, and e-mail address if available to Delta Symposium Workshops, Department of English and Philosophy, PO Box 1890, State University, AR 72467. Applications may be faxed to 870-972-3045 or e-mailed to delta@toltec.astate.edu.

Nordan is author of numerous books with Delta settings, including "Boy with a Loaded Gun," "The Sharpshooter Blues," and "Wolf Whistle." Writers should submit a 5-10 sample of their work with their application.

The workshop for high school teachers will be presented by Nancy Jacobs of Starkville, Miss., High School. Jacobs has developed the award-winning web site, "The Mississippi Writers and Musicians Project: Celebrating a State’s Cultural Heritage." The site may be accessed at shs.starkville.k12.ms.us/mswm/MSWritersAndMusicians. Her workshop is sponsored by the ASU Center for Learning Technologies and the College of Education. Applicants for this workshop should include institution and grade-level in their applications.

William Wiggins Jr.
, Chair of the Department of Afro-American Studies at Indiana University, and Gloria Gibson, vice-chancellor for multicultural affairs at Indiana, will direct the workshop for college and community college teachers.
