March 2, 2001 Works by Delta composers will be featured in Symposium finale The concluding event for Delta Blues Symposium VII: Music and Art in the Delta, will focus on recent compositions by Delta composers. The symposium is sponsored by the Department of English and Philosophy at Arkansas State University. The lecture-concert, organized by the ASU Department of Music, will begin at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 31, in Riceland Hall of the Fowler Center. The event is free and open to the public. The composers who will talk about and perform their work are John Baur, professor of composition at the University of Memphis; Tom O'Connor, associate professor of composition and theory, ASU; Tim Crist, assistant professor of composition and theory at ASU; and Brandon Goff, alumnus of the ASU composition program. According to O’Connor, the event will be "a look at and a listen to the academic side of music composition in the Delta from four active composers." They will consider "how living and working in the Delta influences their music." In addition to the Department of English and Philosophy, Delta Symposium VII is sponsored by the Convocation of Scholars Program, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Communications, College of Education, Center for Learning Technologies, Department of Art, Delta Studies Center, and Lecture-Concert Series.
