Survivor
Skills for College set for third year at ASU Students at Arkansas State University will have an opportunity to test their survival skills at the upcoming third annual Survival Skills for College, hosted by the Counseling Center according to Chandra Miller, a student life counselor. The program, part of Welcome Week activities sponsored by the Student Activities Board, challenges students to work together on issues they will face in a university setting such as time and stress management, note taking, using leadership initiative and case studies, Miller said. The program is loosely based on the reality television show "Survivor." Students are placed on teams and counseling center staff work with the groups to achieve the best possible outcomes. The program takes approximately one to one and a half hours and is available to all incoming students as well as students already attending ASU. Miller, who is a licensed associate counselor, explained that two sessions of Survivors Skills will take place Aug. 20, at 2 p.m., and Aug. 21, at 11 a.m. in the Choctaw Room of the Carl R. Reng Center. She and other counseling center staff members will also be available to provide the sessions in the classroom setting should faculty members be interested after fall classes begin. Students will compete for donated prizes, and everyone who participates will receive something. For more information contact Miller, 870-972-2318. # # # |
