Louis Ward Smith recognized as Outstanding Senior in Agricultural Engineering Arkansas State University senior Louis Ward Smith of White Hall was recently recognized as the Outstanding Senior in Agricultural Engineering from ASU at the annual business meeting of the Arkansas section of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers (ASAE), in Little Rock. The award is presented annually by the Arkansas section, and the ASU agricultural engineering faculty selects one student each year to receive the award. The award is based on academic achievement, involvement in activities of the ASU student chapter of ASAE, general extracurricular involvement on campus, and student character in general. Smith has a double major of agricultural and civil engineering. A member of ASAE since 2000, he is currently vice president and formerly served as secretary. He has been involved with the 1/4-scale tractor design since 2001. The 1/4-scale tractor is used in competition with other student ASAE chapters annually as part of a tractor-pull sponsored by the national ASAE professional society. Smith has also been involved with the steel bridge competition and design team through the student chapter of ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers) at ASU. He is the son of Terry and Ann Smith of White Hall. # # # |
