University Singers set for
concert at Fowler Center Nov. 19

The Arkansas State University choral program will present its fall concert on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 7:30 p.m. in Riceland Hall at Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Drive. Dr. Dale Miller, director of choral activities and chair of the Department of Music, and graduate assistant Meagan Adams will conduct the groups.

The performers will be divided for most of the performance into the Men’s and Women’s Choirs. Accompanist for both groups is Marc Sexton, a junior music major from Jonesboro.

The Men’s Choir will sing a mixture of selections from the 17th to the 21st centuries, including three numbers conducted by Adams. The group will perform "Crucifixus" by Claudio Monteverdi; "Little Innocent Lamb" by Marshall Barthomew; and "The Mermaid" by Michael Levi; "O Salutaris Hostia" by William Mathias; "Movin’ On" by Raymond Hannisian ; "Seeing Nellie Home" by Robert Shaw; and "We Have Crossed the Equator Again" by Peter Schickele.

The Women’s Choir will also sing three selections conducted by Ms. Adams. The group will perform "A Prairie Woman Sings" by Eugene Butler; "The Little Horses" by Aaron Copland; and "Jealousy" by Gade;"Lauda Jerusalem" by Niccola Porpora; "Ellen’s zweiter Gesang" by Franz Schubert, arranged by Johannes Brahms; "Laudate Dominum" by Egil Hovland; and "Wild, Beautiful and Free" by Dede Duson.

The combined group will sing a James Mulholland setting of the Shakespeare text "Take, O Take Those Lips Away."

Rachel Jaramillo, Cindy Sterling, Chantal McPherson, all of Jonesboro, Patricia Taylor of McCook, Texas, Sarah Stutts of Manila, and Jamie Smith of Fouke, alto I; Crystal Richards and Lisa Richards, both of Osceola, Missy Martin of Wynne, Earnestine Smith of Forrest City, Kimberley Cavaness of Rector, and Denise Goslyn of Malvern, alto II; Nic Sheppard of Doniphan, Mo., LaDarion Taylor of Jonesboro, Justin Griffin of Sikeston, Mo., and Christopher Mitchell of Trumann, tenor I; Justin Patterson of Lepanto, Justin Dugger of Batesville, and Charles Winfield of Jonesboro, tenor II; Andrew Kjorlaug of Paragould, Frank Hendrix of Osceola, Ryan Bane of Trumann, Lance Lewallen of Whitehall, and Calvin Key of Little Rock, bass I; and Randy Anis of Pocahontas, Ian Buchanan of Brinkley, Don Hill of Batesville, and Patrick Manes of Bryant, bass II.
