Guest pianist Dr. Rosilee Walker
will perform Monday, Sept. 30

Rosilee Walker, a pianist from the University of Arkansas, Fort Smith, will present a recital at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 30, in the Arkansas State University Fine Arts Center Recital Hall.

The program will consist of "Jardins sous la pluie from Estampes 1903" by Claude Debussy; "Jeux d’Eau" by Maurice Ravel; "Lisle joyeuse" also by Debussy; "Fantaisie Impromptu in C# Minor Op. 66" by Frederic Chopin; "Variations on a Theme by Paganini Op. 35, Book II" by Johannes Brahms; "Sleepy Piano" by Billy Mayerl; "Four American Variations (on a Theme of Paganini)" by Lothar Perl; and "Liebesleid (Robert Shumann) Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2" transcribed by Franz Liszt.

Walker, a classical pianist, is the artist-in-residence and director of keyboard activities at the University of Arkansas -- Fort Smith. She came to UA-FS in 1990 after teaching in Kansas City. Walker holds a bachelor of music degree from Baylor University, a master of music degree and also a doctor of musical arts degree in piano performance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music.

While at Baylor, she was the recipient of the Van Cliburn Piano Scholarship and the Alpha Chi National Music Scholarship for graduate study. At UMKC she was awarded a piano teaching assistantship.

Walker’s principal teachers include internationally known pianists Richard Cass, Susan Starr and Lilian Kallir. She has also collaborated with jazz pianist Tony Caramia, and consulted with pianist and leading novelty authority Alex Hassan.

As a solo artist, Walker performs extensively throughout Arkansas as a member of the Arts on Tour Program, sponsored by the Arkansas Arts Council. She has appeared as a recitalist at the Arkansas Governor’s Mansion, guest pianist at the White House, and performs throughout the United States at major colleges and universities and performing arts centers.

Dr. Walker is a member of the Music Teachers National Association, as well as the Arkansas Chapter of MTNA. She has been a program presenter of novelty music for state music teachers’ conventions as well as the Music Teachers’ National Convention. She is active as an adjudicator and lecturer for music festivals and workshops, and performs and lectures on novelty music throughout the country. Walker can be heard on her CD "Live at Eastman" recorded in the famous Kilbourn Hall at the Eastman School of Music in New York.
