Retiring
faculty recognized at Faculty Honors Convocation Eight faculty members who are retiring this academic year were recognized today for their longtime service to Arkansas State University. All faculty members retiring have been teaching at ASU for more than 10 years, and therefore were named to emeritus status during the annual Faculty Honors Convocation. An individual tribute to each of the retirees was presented, highlighting their accomplishments and contributions to the university. They also received a certificate of emeritus status from Dr. Les Wyatt, president. Those recognized, their current positions and their lengths of service at ASU were: -- Dr. Thomas Bishop, professor of mathematics in the Department of Computer Science and Mathematics, 32 years. -- Martha Jane Gill, instructor in French in the Department of Languages, 32 years. -- Kathy Masters, instructor and director of freshmen studies, Developmental Studies, 25 years. -- Dr. Mitchell Masters, professor of education, Department of Educational Leadership, Curriculum, and Special Education, 26 years. -- Dr. Steven Mayes, professor of art in the Department of Art, 14 years. -- Dr. Calvin Smith, professor of history in the Department of History, 32 years. -- Dr. Richard Tangeman, professor mathematics, Department of Computer Science and Mathematics, 32 years. -- Dr. Theron Waddle, associate professor of music, Department of Music, 22 years. # # # |
