Photojournalism students to present
work at Jonesboro Sun Gallery

The Arkansas State University Photojournalism program from the College of Communications will present its senior show during October at The Jonesboro Sun Gallery. The show will open Thursday, Oct. 3, following a reception from 6 to 8 p.m.

The show will consist of photographs taken by seven seniors in the program with a variety of photos, including portraits, scenic or nature, news and candid shots. To qualify for the show, a student must have taken or be in the process of taking the advanced photojournalism class in the ASU program, led by Dr. Jack Zibluk.

All of the students in the show are also members of the ASU chapter of the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA), which is sponsoring the event.

"The event was created to showcase the abilities of student photographers and to allow them to display their work in a professional manner," senior Hannah Dolle, NPPA president, said.

The students included in the show are Brian Rodriquez, Joseph Midkiff, Kayti Isacksen, Serina Wilkins, Melanie Jarrett, Miranda Remaklus and Dolle.

Rodriquez, a Kennett, Mo., native, is a former editor and photo editor for The Herald, a student-run publication at ASU. He will graduate in December and is the son of Elias and Frances Rodriguez of Kennett.

Midkiff, a senior, works part time at The Modern News in Harrisburg. He is a 1999 graduate of Hoxie High School, and served as sports editor for The Herald in spring of 2002. He is the son of David and Sheri Midkiff of Portia.

Isacksen completed an internship for the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission this summer. She is a graduate of St. Joe High School and the daughter of Beverly and Gary Isacksen.

Dolle, a graduate of Little Rock McClellan High School, works part time at The Jonesboro Sun. A senior, she has served as sports editor and online editor for The Herald. She is the daughter of Virginia Booth of Little Rock and Mike Dolle of Jackson, Miss.

Wilkins, who will graduate in December, is the current photo editor for The Herald. She is treasurer for NPPA and the daughter of Bobby and Becky Clifft of Paragould.

Jarrett, who will graduate in May, is serving as the editor of The Herald this semester. She completed an internship in the photo department of America Online in Washington, D.C. this summer and is NPPA secretary. She is the daughter of Allen and Mary Beth Jarrett of Jonesboro, and is a 1997 graduate of Valley View High School.

Remaklus, who will graduate in December, is a part-time employee at The Jonesboro Sun. She is a 1998 graduate of Jonesboro High School, and is the daughter of Charles and Regina Remaklus of Jonesboro.

Also included in the show will be a memorial to Chad Lewis, a 1999 graduate of the ASU photojournalism program, who died from lung cancer in August of 2000. Two pieces of Lewis’ work will be on display during the show courtesy of Dr. Ruth Hawkins and the ASU Museum.
