Museum Day of the Arts:
‘Inspired by the Past: 1927 Revisited’

In celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Paris wedding of Ernest Hemingway and Pauline Pfeiffer, the Arkansas State University Museum and the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center will present two special events in May.

The featured speaker for both will be Cornelia Powell of Atlanta. Powell, a former associate editor of Vogue magazine, lectures and writes on the history of wedding rituals, fashion, and women’s self-expression. She also operated an Atlanta bridal boutique which was featured in national magazines including Victoria, Veranda, and Southern Accents.

The first event, the Nostalgia Brunch, will be Thursday, May 9, at 11:30 a.m. It will be held on the campus of Arkansas State University, Jonesboro in the Grand Hall of the Fowler Center. Powell will speak on "Inspired by the Past: 1927 Revisited."

Tickets for this "Day of the Arts" event are $35, and $30 for ASU Museum members.

The second event, the Paris Luncheon, will begin at 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 10, on the lawn of Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center in Piggott. Powell will speak on "Inspired by the Past: Wedding Traditions and Rituals of Life." Exhibit tours of "Wedding Gowns from the 1927 Era" and a trunk show and sale will run from 1 to 3 p.m.

Tickets for the Piggott event are $35, or $30 for Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center members.

Transportation is available to Piggott from Jonesboro for the Paris Luncheon, departing at 10 a.m. from the Arkansas State University Convocation Center, and returning by 4:30 p.m. The transportation cost is $10. Reservations for tickets and transportation are due by May 2 by calling 870-972-2074.
