26, 2001 ‘The Invention of a New Star’ exhibit in Fine Arts Center Gallery The Arkansas State University Fine Arts Center Gallery, located on Caraway Road, will host "The Invention of a New Star" exhibit from Monday, Oct. 8, until Friday, Oct. 26. The exhibit is by Memphis artist Hamlett Dobbins. An opening reception in honor of the artist will be from 7 until 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, at the gallery. Dobbins has exhibited widely throughout the Midwest and Memphis areas. He is currently the curator at Delta Axis at Marshall Arts, an alternative exhibition space in Memphis. Dobbins’ works are metaphors for events in history. A spokesman for the Department of Art said, "The exhibits are often quite personal. Some have references to memories of his father working in the garden. Others may refer to the nature of gardening or the notion of starting with the "old" and adding the "new." Dobbins received his bachelor of fine arts degree from the University of Memphis, and a master of arts and a master of fine arts degrees from the University of Iowa.
