The New Century Saxophone Quartet and guest soloist Bob Mintzer will give the next performance in the Fowler Center Series at Arkansas State University.

The ensemble will perform Saturday, March 23, at 7:30 p.m. in Riceland Hall at Fowler Center, located at 201 Olympic Drive. The performance is sponsored by the Riceland Distinguished Performance Series.

Area high school saxophone players are invited to participate in a day-long clinic at Fowler Center.

Then, as the culminating event in "Saxophone Saturday," the evening concert will feature the quartet, Mintzer, a special appearance by the clinic participants, and the Tribe, the ASU jazz band.

The New Century Saxophone Quartet is the only ensemble of its kind to win First Prize of the Concert Artists Guild Competition. The pioneering and versatile group is the recipient of grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and Chamber Music America, and has been heard in major concert venues in Las Angeles, New York and Amsterdam.

The ensemble has appeared on radio and television across the United States in features on National Public Radio’s Performance Today, the Voice of America and North Carolina Public TV. Over the past decade, New Century has been responsible for a significant broadening of the repertory of saxophone quartet through its commissioning projects.

Tickets prices for the event are $20 and $17 for adults, and $15 and $12 for students. Ladysmith Black Mambazo will give the next performance in the Fowler Center series on Sunday, April 21, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the Central Box Office, located at the lower red entrance of the Convocation Center.
