‘Living It Up On the Lawn’ takes shape
at Arkansas State University

Welcome Week at Arkansas State University is set for August 17 - 22 as students make their way back onto campus for the fall semester. This year's theme is "Living It Up on the Lawn," which refers to the area north of the Dean B. Ellis Library.

Activities have been scheduled as icebreakers for students and their parents to become acquainted with one another and the campus. Various services will also be available for students at this time.

"Welcome Week is a time to welcome the newest members of our family to the school," Neely Gathings, coordinator for student activities and advisor for the Student Activities Board, said.

Welcome Week will kick off Saturday, Aug. 17, with Operation Move. Members of the SAB, Student Government Association, Union Activities Board, Greek and religious organizations will assist students as they move into the residence halls. The Alumni Association will also host their annual "Watering Hole," by passing out cold water and assisting with the move in.

Informational sessions will be available for students, including the Baptist Collegiate Ministries Survival 2002 on Monday, Aug. 19, and at the counseling center, on Aug. 20 and 21.

Additionally there will be a "Back to School Dance" on Friday, Aug. 23, a Greek Week 5K Run/Walk on Wednesday, Aug. 28; and Order of the Tribe on Friday, Aug. 29. Order of the Tribe is an annual presentation to teach students about the tradition and history of ASU.

The Student Activities Board, with the assistance of other student organizations on campus, has organized several events, which include:
