Alumna Kathy White to speak
at summer commencement ceremony


Dr. Kathy Brittain White, executive vice president and chief information officer of Cardinal Health, Inc. will be the guest speaker for Arkansas State University’s summer Dr. Kathy Brittain Whitecommencement ceremony on Friday, August 3. The ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. in the Convocation Center, located on Olympic Drive.

White is an alumna of Arkansas State University, where she earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business. She completed a doctorate in management from the University of Memphis, formerly Memphis State University.

White, a native of Oxford, Ark., was recognized for her professional achievements by the College of Business in 1997 when she was named as a distinguished alumni.

Approximately 400 students are candidates for degrees at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Dr. Les Wyatt, president of ASU, will present the various diplomas.

Following the ceremony, a reception for all graduates and their guests, faculty and staff will be held on the north mezzanine, between the blue and green entrances to the building.

White’s responsibilities include directing the company’s strategic use of information systems and the e-business organization. She has served as senior vice president and chief information officer at Allegiance Corporation, which merged with Cardinal in 1999.

Early in White’s career she ran a private consulting practice and served as an associate professor of information technology at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Later she served as vice president for corporate services for Guilford Mills Inc., and then in 1993 became vice president for information systems and services at AlliedSignal Corporation.

Following her tenure at AlliedSignal she joined Baxter International as its CIO and corporate vice president in April 1995, before Allegiance spun off from Baxter in 1996.

White is a member of the board of National Service Industries (NSI); Certegy, Inc., formerly Equifax Payment Systems and the Center of Science and Industries (COSI). She also serves on the Board of Advisors for Compaq Computer Corp.

She was named in Forbes Top 25 America’s Businesswomen 2001; Top 10 CIOs in the United States, 1997 Information Week; and to the list of the Top 100 Women in Computing, 1994 Open Computing.
