Information and Technology
Services
facility to be dedicated Friday, Dec. 14
Everyone is welcome to
attend a dedication ceremony Friday for Arkansas State University’s
recently completed Information & Technology Services Building.
The 1 p.m. ceremony will be followed by an open house and tours from
1:30 until 3 p.m. The new facility is located at 2713-C Pawnee St.,
adjacent to the Facilities Management Building.
The new facility provides a centralized location for three computing and
telecommunications organizations that previously operated separately.
ASU merged the three entities several months ago to form Information
& Technology Services, which now operates and manages all enterprise
technology services for the campus.
"The primary feature of the new ITS space is the flexibility in its
design," explained Mark Hoeting, director of ITS. "Internal
infrastructure design, such as the wire/cable management system, allow
for the flexibility required to support ongoing testing and development
of new technologies. One example would be addressing the convergence of
voice, data, and video over a single technological medium."
The university recently completed an upgrade of its administrative
computing system to an IBM OS390, which is housed in the new facility.
"The new facility also features a disaster-resistant centralized
machine room for all university computer network servers and data
communications equipment," Hoeting added. "The facility is
equipped internally with wireless data communications, and we are
planning to implement wireless external point-to-point connectivity to
various locations on campus."
