Huckaby named to All-American Eagles for second year Arkansas State University’s Matt Huckaby capped a stellar 2001-2002 year, which saw him represent the United States Rugby Eagle squad in Argentina, Chile, Australia, New Zealand, China and Hong Kong. An open-side flanker, Huckaby is one of only two players selected from Division II rugby teams for the All-American squad. Huckaby, who graduated in May with a bachelor’s degree in Spanish, used his first selection in 2001 as a springboard for representing the United States on the national team, the Eagles, with his stellar play on the College All-American team in Ireland. He is the Rugby Tribe’s second All-American, with Yves Pichavant earning the honor in 2000. The Selection Advisory Panel that attended the All-Star Championship was led by All-American Coach Larry Naifeh and included national team head coach Tom Billup; Mike Flanagan, highly successful coach of the powerhouse U.S. Naval Academy; Eagle captain and former All-American ('89-'90) Dave Hodges; Eagle, Oxford Blue, and former All-American ('91-'93) Ray Lehner. The All-American program is soon expected to announce tour plans for the autumn.
