High School students recognized
in writing competition


Several area high school students were recently received awards after their participation in the Arkansas State University High School Writing Competition, according to Dr. Charles Carr, chair of the Department of English and Philosophy.

Students could compete in three categories: poetry, essay writing and short story. Approximately 50 students from Northeast Arkansas participated in the competition.

Student winners in the poetry competition include Ronnie J. Boling from Westside High School, first place; Krystal Riley from Gosnell High School, second place; and Ashlie Lewis from Sulphur Rock High School, third place.

Receiving awards for essay writing were Angela Boyd from Greene County Tech High School, first place; Victoria McCracken from Greene County Tech High School, second place; and Kristy Moody from Sulphur Rock High School, third place.

Award winners in the story competition include Melanie Morrison from Valley View High School, first place; Ginger Ashley from Greene County Tech High School, second place; and Nicole Mollins from Valley View High School, third place.
