College of Fine Arts to host
High School Art Exhibition


The College of Fine Arts at Arkansas State University will host the second annual High School Art Exhibition in the Fine Arts Center Gallery from Monday, March 12, through Wednesday, March 28. The exhibition, sponsored by the Student Art Education Association, will open with a reception on Monday, March 12, from 6 until 8 p.m.

The competition is open to students in grades nine through 12 in Northeast Arkansas. A panel of three jurors chose 52 pieces to be shown from a total of 171 entries. Judges included John Salvest, professor of art; Pam Myrose, retired art teacher; and graduate student Robert McCarroll.

The winners of the five cash awards are Corey Davis, Nettleton Junior High School, Print Club Award; Geneva Loots, Mt. Home High School, Pottery Club Award; Raven Whaley, West Memphis High School, Art Directors Club Award; Tyler Copeland, Valley View High School and Blake Montgomery, Westside High School, Art Education Purchase Awards.

Honorable mention was given to works by Edward Granger, West Memphis High School; Megan Taylor, Annie Camp Junior High School; and Rachel West, Valley View High School.

These awards will be announced at the reception on Monday evening.
