HOLIDAY SPECTACULAR CONCERT SCHEDULED AT ASU

A unique holiday concert featuring Arkansas State University’s top musical student performers is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 8 at 3 p.m. in Fowler Center’s Riceland Hall.

The Holiday Spectacular concert is sponsored by the ASU Foundation and is being held in recognition of those who support the many causes of the Foundation throughout the year.

Steve Owens, president and chief executive officer of the ASU Foundation, said the Holiday Spectacular has been organized to serve as the ASU Foundation’s "gift" to the many volunteers and benefactors who give of their time and resources to benefit students at ASU.

"There are more than 5,000 people who make an annual contribution to the ASU Foundation," Owens said. "Those charitable gifts go to support important things such as student scholarships, classroom and laboratory improvements and faculty research. For some time we’ve thought about ways that we could give back a proper ‘thank you’ to the community that supports ASU, and we believe the Holiday Spectacular is the perfect way for us to express that thanks."

The Holiday Spectacular will showcase student and faculty talent from the College of Fine Arts’ Music Department. The one hour and 15 minute performance will feature the ASU Ringers (handbell choir) under the direction of Dr. Ellis Julien; the Wind Ensemble directed by Ed Alexander; University Singers directed by Dr. Dale Miller; and the ASU Concert Orchestra led by Dr. Neale Bartee.

The final two numbers of the concert will include an audience sing-along, and a unique grand finale that will feature more than 150 performers in all four groups together at once.

"This is a season when we all think about all the things for which we are grateful and certainly Arkansas State University is gratified by the generous support of its alumni and friends," Owens said. "With this first Holiday Spectacular we invite our supporters to celebrate the season and all that is made possible through strengthening the ASU Foundation."

The ASU Holiday Spectacular is a free, ticketed event, and a number of those tickets are available to the public. To receive your tickets contact the University Development Office at Arkansas State University, 888-225-8343 or 870-972-3940.
