10, 2001 Dr. Ruth A. Hawkins appointed interim Director of ASU Museum Dr. Ruth A. Hawkins, who has directed many of Arkansas State University’s recent initiatives in cultural and heritage preservation, is the newly appointed interim director of the ASU Museum. Dr. V. Rick McDaniel, interim vice president for academic affairs, announced the appointment and said she also will continue performing her current duties. "Ruth has presented a well-articulated vision for the Museum’s future and how it could have a more regional presence in the Delta region," McDaniel said. "She would like to develop educational opportunities for the public in cooperation with other museums and cultural education programs. This will be an excellent opportunity for her to start moving the Museum in that direction while the university considers how the position of director might best be filled on a permanent basis." Soon after joining the ASU administrative staff in 1978, Hawkins began directing development and public relations activities. She became vice president for institutional advancement in 1986. Since July 1999, she has served as founding director of the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Education Center in Piggott and as director of Arkansas Delta Heritage Initiatives, where her responsibilities include Arkansas Delta Byways and the Crowley’s Ridge Parkway. She succeeds Danny Sessums, who resigned to pursue career interests out of state. |
