Department of Music to present
guest recital Monday, Sept. 17

The Arkansas State University Department of Music will present a guest recital by vocalist Jon Secrest and pianist Cindy Fuller Monday, Sept. 17, at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Recital Hall, located on Caraway Road.

The Program will consist of "Magnificat in D" by Johann Sebastian Bach; "E l’uccelino," "Canto d’anime," "Casa mia, casa mia,"" Moire," and "Inno a Roma" by Giacomo Puccini; "Shakespeare Songs" by Roger Quilter; three French songs by Maurice Ravel; "Songs of Travel" by Ralph Vaughn Williams; and "Cieloemar" from the opera La Gioconda by Ponchielli.

Professor Secrest serves Ouachita Baptist University in a number of different capacities including chair of the Applied Music Department, coordinator of Vocal Studies and director of Opera and Musical Theater Workshops.

Secrest, a tenor, holds degrees from Friends University, Kansas State University and Arizona State University, where he studied voice with Jerry Doan. His opera credits include the tenor leads in "Madame Butterfly," "Carmen," "La Traviata," "Cavaleria Rusticana," "La Boheme," "Falstaff" and "The Tales of Hoffman." He has appeared with the Phoenix Symphony, Mesa Symphony, Scottsdale Symphony, Nouveau West Orchestra, Lawton Philharmonic, Music Academy of the West, and Lyric Opera of Arizona State University.

He currently serves as the Arkansas Governor for the Southern Region of the National Association of Teachers of Singing. He resides in Arkadelphia with his wife, Glenda, and their two children, Evan and Caitlin.

Fuller is instructor of voice and music education at OBU. She holds a bachelor of music degree and a bachelor of music education from Baylor University, and a master’s of music from Sam Houston State University. She is in frequent demand as a clinician for both public school and church music conferences and workshops, and has also served on the faculty of Arkansas Baptist State Convention Music Camps.

Fuller enjoys accompanying for vocal ensembles, guest artists, and faculty recitals at Ouachita. She is church organist and children’s choir director at First Baptist Church in Arkadelphia. She is a native of Grand Prairie, Texas, and resides in Arkadelphia with her husband, Charlie, and their two daughters, Becky and Sarah.
